Our company is dedicated to addressing the serious environmental problem of cigarette butt pollution.
Over 3,000,000,000 cigarettes are smoked each year in New Zealand, (that’s over 350,000 an hour) and millions of butts not properly disposed of are littering our landscape and polluting our environment.
That’s millions of cigarettes flicked or dropped, one at a time, on our sidewalks, beaches, parks, gardens, and other public places every single day. Cigarette butts make up over 57% of storm water drain litter. In fact, cigarettes are the most littered item in the world.
Cigarette filters are made of cellulose acetate tow, not cotton, and they can take decades to degrade. Not only does cigarette litter ruin even the most picturesque setting, and costs authorities millions of dollars a year to clean up, but the toxic residue in cigarette filters is damaging to the environment, and littered butts cause numerous fires every year, some of them fatal.
